5 DYI Christmas gifts idea | On a budget

It's that time of year again - When we are rushing and scrambling to find the perfect gift for all of those wonderful people on our Christmas list. This can be incredibly draining, both emotionally and financially. Isn't it insane the amount of money we are expected to spend every year at Christmas. In 2015, studies showed that the average American/Canadian would spend between $950.00 -$1,000 on Christmas gifts! Just think of how that number has increased over the past few years.

As a wife, a mother of almost two and a homeowner, it's almost impossible to keep up with gifts for the amount of people who have in our lives, both friends and family. Here are a few of my own ideas for simple DIY Christmas gifts when you are on a budget. All of these gift ideas can be done for under 10$.

1. Bake yummy treats

Baked warm goodies are always welcomed by people! Especially around Christmas time when the weather is colder and people are in need of some warm yummy foods. It's fun this time of year because you can also get creative with how you are decorating. Cookies, muffins, brownies, cupcakes, etc are all excellent alternatives to going out and purchasing a gift. Top it off with a heart felt card (which you can buy in bulk at your local dollar store) and you're good to go!

2. Homemade hot chocolate jars

This is personally one of my most favorite DYI gifts to give for Christmas. Who doesn't like hot chocolate?! Go to your local bulk food store or even a dollar store and purchase a mason jar, hot chocolate mix, marshmallows, candy canes (to crush up), powdered sugar and lastly, chocolate chips. Let me tell you, this is super simple! just layer these ingredients inside your jar and you're good to go!

3. Candle Jars

This is more of a gift idea for a girl or woman in your life, but nonetheless a fun and thoughtful idea. Many of the women in my family are obsessed with candles. What I have done in the past is do a personalized candle holder/jar for a gift. All you need is a Mason Jar (or any type of jar), ribbon, and any other arts/crafts material you would like to decorate the jar. Personally, I have put in the past I have purchased glitter or small wooden letters and hot glued them to the jar to write their name or something personal between the two of us. The ribbon is great to tie around the top part of the jar to add that extra festive touch. Purchase a smaller candle to place inside of the jar and BAM! You're good to go!

4. Candy bags

These are perfect for the little ones in your family. It's a simple and affordable gift for kiddos. Trust me they will love it! Like I mentioned before, the bulk food store or dollar store will be your best friend this time of year. Go and purchase a variety of different little candies. While you're out, look to see if the store sells holiday or festive type little plastic see through bags. These will be perfect to put the candies in. Lastly buy some ribbon to tie up the bags.

5. Personalized journal

This gift works best for the person in your life who loves to journal, take notes, etc. I have done this a few times in the past and it has always been well received. Purchase an inexpensive journal and personalize the bottom of each page. Yes, this gift idea is more time consuming; yet, it's going to be the most beneficial for you in the long run. The end result is always so heart felt and personal. For me, as a christian, I love to find specific bible verses or worship song lyrics to write at the bottom of each page. You can also add little notes of encouragement or compliments specifically for the person you are designing the journal for.

I hope these ideas work well for you! DM on Instagram if you use any of these ideas and let me know how it works out! Have a safe and fun Christmas, everyone!
