Always More
There's always more. Always more that God is working on in you. There's always more that He has in store for you.
Today is Christmas Eve and I know the holiday season comes with a lot. It's not only a fun, magical and beautiful time of year; it's also a time where so many people experience depression, sadness over loss, loneliness and fear. I can understand this.
This blog has one purpose and one purpose only, to encourage you during this time. Take a look at Mary. Imagine being this young teenage girl, who is engaged to be married; never had sex with a man before and BAM! Angel of the Lord shines down upon her saying you're going to have a baby! Honestly, tell me what you'd be thinking. I'd be thinking, DAMN! Am I going crazy? I'm pretty sure that in Sex-Ed they told us "how" to get pregnant... and I haven't done that... so....? Hmm. I'd also AFRAID! OVERWHELMED and probably in utter shock. Do you ever feel like Mary? Like out of nowhere, in a split second, your entire world has come crashing down on you? Does your anxiety level rise from 0 to 100 in seconds? Does your mind instantly go to the worst case scenario and continue to spiral out of control until you're left with an aching heart and no hope? I have. I've been there. You're not alone. Fear strikes and can be debilitating. Especially this time of the year when we are consumed with fear if you're grieving, lonely, financially unstable, missing loved ones, or whatever the case may be.
But let's shift our focus. Focus is key. What we fix our attention/focus on determines the outcome of mindset, our behavior and choices. Mary was scared. Heck yes! You'd be too. A baby changes everything! Living in a time where sex outside of marriage was just simply not allowed. A child born out of wedlock... what's that? These are things that were completely foreign to Mary. But let's focus on what happen's next.
"Fear not, Mary the angel told her. For you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus" Luke 1:30-31
What I encourage you to focus on is this phrase the angel says to Mary, "FEAR NOT". He knows she is afraid which is why he instructs her to remove that fear. The bible goes on to talk about the birth of Jesus in greater detail. When Jesus is born, the angel appears to say once again, FEAR NOT! I have great news of great joy that will be for ALL people!
It's okay to fear. God knows that this life isn't easy. It's not fair or always filled with joy. However, this is why he sent Jesus. He appears to us in our lives, in our story, OVER AND OVER reminding us not to fear. Why? Because he brings GOOD things for us. GREAT JOY. Yes, our circumstances may not always be joyful. However, he doesn't want us to STAY in our fear. Living in our fears leads nowhere. Actually that's not true, it does. It leads to destruction. Fear keeps you shackled in your anxiety, depression, your sadness and grief. All of these things are valid. You are allowed to feel them. But I encourage you to remove your shackles, stand up and FEAR NOT. Because there's always more.
God promises us that there's always more in store for us. He is able to do more than you can ever imagine. Don't believe the LIE that you will live in your fear, grief, depression, state of loss, or sadness forever. It's just that - A LIE. There's always more and this Christmas season, as you may experience all these emotions, remember that God is with you. Emmanuel means "God with us" which is why we sing about Emmanuel at Christmas.
