5 Date Night Ideas | Affordable
Getting out on a date has been a lot more difficult since becoming parents. Jason and I love spending time together. He's my best friend and we enjoy all of the little things together. Carving out time for adult conversation is critical and highly needed. Finding a babysitter can be hard.
It's not just parents who need this alone time, but every relationship. Married couples, I can't emphasize the importance of dating your spouse. I remember when Jason and I went through our pre-maritial counseling, we were told that if you make your marriage all about your children, and neglect time with one another, one day your children will be grown up and moved out, and you two will be alone. At this point, you will be strangers in your own home.
Never stop dating your or flirting with your significant other.
Here are some ideas that can be used for both parents and couples without children who want to date on a budget. We all know how expensive ONE night out can be. From dinner and drinks, movie tickets and popcorn, to the gas you need to put in the car and a nice outfit to wear. Everything adds up. I have put together 5 date night ideas that are super fun and affordable. These dates will save you money and keep that romance alive.
1. Dinner and movie night AT HOME
You know your significant other best. You know what food they like, movies etc. But it's always good to ask. Ask your husband/boyfriend what they are in the mood for and make them their favorite dinner. You can always order pizza or take out too. This is still going to be cheaper then eating out at a fancier Restaurant. Second, pick a movie. You can make snacks and drinks together at home. Netflix is your best friend! Tip: Make dinner together. use this as time to chat and catch up.
2. Drinks/Games Night
Okay, I know that this may sound silly. But trust me, a board game or cards can be fun! Especially when you pair it with one of your favorite alcoholic beverages. If you don't drink, that's okay! Maybe use this time to make one of your favorite non-alcoholic drinks, like hot chocolate or milkshakes!
3. Take advantage of coupons
My husband and I love a good deal! I think for men, they tend to think about the cost of the date more than the woman. I know if we're doing something expensive my husband will be fixated on that the whole night, instead of enjoying our time together and being in the moment. So go online, look through your mail and find date night deals in coupons. A date doesn't always have to be fancy. The best dates are the ones where you have uninterrupted time to just enjoy one another.
4. Go on a walk/hike
It depends on the weather and where you live, but if you are having good weather, take advantage of that! Make a dinner at home, research a pretty park or hiking trail, and then go walk and enjoy the nature together. I find walking through parks so romantic for some reason.
5. Coffee date
One of my all time favorite things to do with my husband is to find a cute little coffee shop together. We love finding places with a lot of character, good coffee and DELICIOUS TREATS! I'm gluten free/dairy free (along with a million other allergies) but finding a coffee shop that can cater to my diet is glorious! Don't get me wrong i'm a basic white girl. I LOVE my Starbucks, but finding unique places and making them your own is so fun! This is an inexpensive way to make your date night interesting and fun.
TIP: Always compliment your significant other. Don't spend your date pointing out the negative of the week, or criticizing. Flirt with your man. Tell him how handsome he looks. Hold hands on your date, communicate/listen well and make eye contact. And, TURN OFF YOUR PHONE.
